Australian Jewish Historical Society (Victoria)
Meetings are held in Melbourne, and usually take the form of evening presentations, and occasionally are forums or min-conferences . We also organise full and half-day guided tours to Jewish Historical sites both within Melbourne and to country regions as far away as Broken Hill.

Meeting on 20080821 Elsa Davis Eccentric or Vexatious Litigant ( Simon Smith )
Frances Edna Davis (1907-1989) A musical child prodigy, she toured Australian capital cities in the 1920's. In the 1930's she had much success as a composer and in the 1970-80s her 1920s style vaudeville act and television performances gathered a minor cult following. However, in the 1940's, her sensational and determined litigation, mainly against her then brother-in-law Governor General Sir Isaac Isaacs, led her to being declared a vexatious litigant.

At this meeting AJHS Vic will officially launch the online version of the Beverley Davis Burial Database accessible from www.bd-bd.info. Then Suzanne Baker will outline the birth of Musical Viva.
Meeting on 20080327 Messianic Jews ( Dvir Abramovich )
Messianic congregations have been studied by Dvir Abramovich (to left). Its leaders are called pastors and rabbis, and followers practice both Torah customs and New Testament beliefs. In their synagogues/churches they wear kippot and tallitot, observe the traditional Jewish holidays, and celebrate Bar-Mitzvah’s…all the while praying to Jesus and proselytizing other Jews do the same.
Meeting on 20080226 Premiere of Chapel of Chic
This is NOT an AJHS (Vic) meeting -- but members will be interested to learn of the latest film by Leslie Sharon Rosenthal.‘Chapel of Chic’ will premiere at the iconic Astor Theatre on Tuesday 26th February at 7.30 p.m. The movie is a lively romp through a century of Chapel Street’s commercial, social and fashion history.
Meeting on 20080220 AGM and Schmattes to Riches ( Lesley Sharon Rosenthal )
After a brief AGM noted historian and teller of tales about the schmatte industry Leslie Sharon Rosenthal will give a presentation entitled Schmatte to Riches dealing with the Jewish presence within the ulta chic schmatte trade in Chapel Street Prahran
