This issue of the Journal has on is cover a reproduction of a fine portrait of isaac Nathan, the father of Australian Music. This issue contains qrticles dealing with the life, times, and sometimes secret aspects of Isaac Nathan, the Monash Family, the Weintraub Syncopators, First-class Jewish crickiters, Herman Deutsch - pioneer Ballarat engraver. Following WW2 a series of Jewish organizations have been established aiming to protect the community from anti-semitism. Philip Mendes analyses the workings of the Melbourne Jewish Council to Combat Fascism and Anti-semitism 1949-50, while Andrew Markus gives the first account of Research Services 1960-67. Joe Lederman describes the search for the lost ANZAC Torah, while Tanya Warms details the Jews buried in suburban Boroondara cemetery.

This issue of the AJHS Journal covers range of Australian Jewish History from the earliest Colonial period to circa 1948. Graham Pont discusses the extraordinary relationship of Isaac Nathan -- the father of Australian Music -- with Lord Byron and Lady Caroline Lamb. Janis Wilson investigates the Maitland Jewish Cemetery, while Glen Gordon discusses, through historical examples, the challenges of maintaining Jewish life and identity in rural Australia. Keith Shilkin describes the very local Jewish history of Northbridge which is a region north of Perth. Wendy Michaels reviews the history of Zionism in Australia, and nespecially outlines the role Australian Jewish women have played. Rabbi Raymond descusses the Jewish presence in the Northern Territory, and in another paper discusses Jewish scholarship between the two World Wars. The front cover features Rev. The lead article in this issue is an extensive memoir of Albert Behrend (cover image), a first cousin of John Monash. Two articles deal with the establishment of Musica Viva and the story of German speaking Jewish musicians. In other articles Melbourne's first apartment boom is recounted, a history of the Melbourne Bund is outlined, the Blashki familty reunion 2008 is recounted. Philip Mendes discusses the ideology of the Melbourne Jewish Council to Combat Fascism and Anti-Semitism. Bill (W.R.) Rubinstein analyses coverage of Jews in the Australian Dictionary of biography. Other articles celebrate the lives of Mark Haskin, Alec Masel, and Olga Jacobs. The regular series of extracts from Jewish newspapers from 100 years ago continues.

This issue of the Jounal is dedicated to the memory of the late Morris Zion Forbes (cover photo). In this issue is the last article by Mr Forbes on the response of Australian Jewry to the 'Wailing Wall Incident' (1928 ) when the Kol Nidrei service at the Western Wall in Jerusalem was deliberately and forcefully disrupted by British police to satisfy Islamic objections to Jewish worship. Other aricles deal with Dr Billigheimer in Australia, the life saga of Alec Klippel in Australasia, the notorious Abe Saffran, and the history of 'frum' Jews in NSW. Russell Stern recounts the amazing story of WD 'Karri' Davies a mining engineer firstly at Broken Hill, then in South Africa where he was a major player in events leading to the Boer War.
